Nirmaan Global Internship

Program Overview:

Our Global Internship in Community Service Program offers participants the opportunity to engage in meaningful community development projects in developing countries. Through hands-on work and cultural immersion, interns will gain valuable skills, contribute to sustainable projects, and make a positive impact on local communities.

Program Duration:

The program typically lasts for 2+ weeks in summer (29th July - Aug 11th), providing interns with a comprehensive experience that allows for deep engagement with the local community and project work.

Location:

For the 2024 cohort, our internships are based in developing countries, chosen according to community needs and project availability. This year, we are focusing on India, while future locations can be countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Program Objectives:

Cultural Immersion: Participants will immerse themselves in the local culture, gaining a deeper understanding of the community they are working with.
Skill Development: Interns will develop practical skills related to community development, project management, and cross-cultural communication.
Community Impact: Interns will work on projects that have a tangible and sustainable impact on the local community, addressing issues such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and environmental conservation.
Personal Growth: The program aims to foster personal growth and resilience in participants, challenging them to step outside their comfort zones and adapt to new environments.
Global Citizenship: Interns will develop a sense of global citizenship, understanding their role in addressing global challenges and contributing to a more sustainable and equitable world.

Program Components:

Pre-Departure Training: Participants will receive comprehensive training before departure, covering topics such as cultural sensitivity, project management, and health and safety.
On-Site Support: Participants will be supported by local staff throughout their internship, providing guidance, mentorship, and logistical support.
Project Work: Interns will work on community development projects, collaborating with local stakeholders and community members to achieve project goals.
Cultural Activities: Participants will engage in cultural activities and excursions, providing opportunities to learn about the local culture and traditions.
Reflection and Learning: Interns will have regular opportunities for reflection and learning, helping them to process their experiences and apply their learning to future endeavors.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be at least 14 years and will be completing middle school by 2024 Summer
Applicants should have a strong interest in community service, cross-cultural exchange, and personal development.
Applicants must be willing to adapt to new environments and work collaboratively with others.

Application Process:

Interested individuals should complete an online application form, including a personal statement and references.
Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview.
Successful applicants will be notified and provided with further details about the program and pre-departure preparations.

Costs and Funding:

Nirmaan is responsible for covering program fees, which typically include travel, accommodation, meals, and in-country support. Selected candidates need to fund raise 5000$ for the Nirmaan’s community projects they select to involve.

Outcome and Impact:

By the end of the program, participants will have developed practical skills, gained cross-cultural understanding, and made a positive impact on the communities they have worked with. They will be better equipped to tackle global challenges and contribute to positive change in their own communities.
