Bornali Dolui is a tailoring beneficiary of HSBC’s Women Empowerment, Skilling, and Livelihood Support Center at Fateh Nagar. Her husband works at a fan manufacturing company. She is blessed with a child who is currently studying in NSKK School at Balanagar. COVID-19 brought a lot of financial hardship to her family.
During the lockdown her husband lost his job causing great financial distress. Under these circumstances, Bornali learned about HSBC Technology’s support for women empowerment projects at Fateh Nagar. She immediately approached Nirmaan team who told her to enrol for a tailoring skill online course. Her family was struggling financially to meet daily needs during lockdown, but the additional burden of attending online classes proved too much for Bornali as it would require her to recharge her mobile data for attending online classes. Her strong resolve to support her family and get herself skilled did not bother Bornali. Unable to mobilise money for recharging her mobile data, she pledged her gold jewellery at a local pawn shop and completed her training.
Post completion of the tailoring course, she got a job opportunity at Ruchi Exports, a garment manufacturing company at Sanath Nagar. She started with an initial monthly salary of 3000/- per month. Currently, she is earning 7000/- per month.
With her additional income, she is now able to send her son to tuition and is able to provide quality education to her child. Her family’s financial situation is stable as her husband started work post-lockdown. She is very thankful to HSBC Technology and Nirmaan organisation for empowering her with skills and providing a peripheral livelihood source for her family.
